Being a full-time mother is one of the highest salaried jobs... since the payment is pure love. ~Mildred B. Vermont
I like to think that heaven is made up of all of your favorite memories on earth and you just get to live them over and over. Last night I had one of those moments that I want to be in my heaven. I was sitting in the glider in the nursery snuggling with Grant before bed. He was smiling and we were talking to each other about the fun day we had. The warm summer air was blowing the blinds and my puppers were playing at my feet. It was perfect.
I didn't want the moment to end. Even after the dogs settled down and were nestled at my feet and Grant had drifted into sleep in my arms, I sat there soaking up the moment. Smelling deeply Grant's freshly clean head and pjs. And hoping that I would remember this very moment for always and exactly how happy and lucky I was feeling.
I am so lucky and blessed. Everyday I am reminded by something of just how lucky I am to be spending this time during Grant's first year at home with him. I tell myself that I will never forget these times together or what it was like when he was so very small. But the truth is that he's still getting bigger each and every day. He's doing and learning new things all of the time. And each stage is even better than the last and over-shaddowing the last stage just a little. It's easy to say that I won't forget all of these special moments, but as we pack up the swing that he loved as a newborn and now never uses, and as he crawls and "cruises" around all of the furniture, the days of him being a newborn seem so distant.
It makes me cherish the moments like last night even more. Just the two of us cuddling in the nursery. Feeling summer come through the window. And even the puppers recognizing the specialness of the moment as they settled down to cuddle with us. Sounds like heaven, huh? Well when I'm old and gray, this is what I hope I'll find my heaven is made of.
